Professional Biography

Dr. Nathan “Nate” Eichelberger is a geologist and structural geology consultant with more than 15 years of experience helping clients understand complex subsurface geologic systems. Through Splitrock Geologic Consulting LLC, he provides expertise in structural geology, geologic mapping, subsurface interpretation, and tectonic analysis for clients working on a variety of natural resource and clean energy projects.

Nate specializes in integrating geological, geophysical, and mapping data to develop robust structural interpretations and quantitative geologic models. His work supports decision-making for oil and gas exploration, geothermal development, underground carbon storage, and natural resource projects. He has extensive experience analyzing, modeling, and restoring complex fault, fold, and salt tectonic systems to help clients evaluate geological uncertainty and project risk.

Prior to founding Splitrock Geologic Consulting LLC, Nate worked as a research structural geologist with StructureSolver LLC, where he developed subsurface geological models using 2D and 3D seismic data and collaborated with major energy companies including Chevron, Exxon, and Oxy. His work combined advanced structural analysis, basin restoration, and quantitative modeling to support exploration and development decisions in geologic settings worldwide.

Nate earned a PhD in Geosciences from Princeton University, where his research focused on the structural evolution of the Bolivian Andes and the development of mountain belts and plateaus. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Bates College.

Over the course of his career, Nate has worked across a diverse range of geological settings, including the Central Andes, Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, Angola, Papua New Guinea, China, California, and Alaska. This broad experience allows him to bring practical insight and a global perspective to every project.

Today, Nate works directly with clients throughout the lifecycle of a project, from proposal development and technical evaluation through final interpretation, reporting, and presentation of results. His approach emphasizes clear communication, scientific rigor, and practical recommendations tailored to client objectives.
